A focused organization

At the heart of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) is the safe delivery of the project – bringing nuclear energy to the nation. This is what drives our work. This is the goal that shapes our organization.

ENEC’s development from an energy startup to a full-scale nuclear energy organization has followed a carefully designed Strategic Roadmap to adapt to the different phases of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program.

The Strategic Roadmap is the high-level plan that outlines the goals and strategies of ENEC’s development, from its inception in 2009 to 2028, divided into four distinct phases or ‘Waves’.

In 2013, Wave 1 was successfully completed. It focused on the priorities to initiate ENEC as an organization, setup our Chief Program Office and the operating company, and build a high-performing team.

In 2017, Wave 2 was completed, with a focus on continuing the construction of the Barakah plant in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety, and the establishment of a robust governance structure for the long-term sustainability of the UAE Program.

Since then, ENEC has focused on Wave 3, which is estimated to run until 2021 and has the following three Strategic Goals:

  • Deliver short team priorities
  • Prepare for the future
  • Strengthen key enablers

Underpinning our strategic goals and business activities are the following key principles, which we have committed to developing and delivering against:

  • An optimum combination of accountability, decision-making, delegation, and appropriate control
  • A customer-centric organization in which both line and support personnel understand their roles and have identified their internal or external customers and suppliers in the end-to-end business processes
  • A performance management culture focused on outcomes and results, and
  • A culture of continuous improvement, in which the behavior of our staff reflects our corporate values and the expectations of a safety-driven nuclear organization, in which everyone challenges inefficiency and administrative burden.

This operating model enables all members of our team and our key stakeholders to understand what we are trying to achieve, how we operate, and what each person’s role is within our organization.

Most importantly, it ensures that we remain focused on achieving our overall mission, which is to provide clean, efficient and reliable energy to the UAE.
